After doing something, no
other Silver State Academy athletic team has ever done, Coach Grimshaw and the
Rams took time out to savor their accomplishments. Having dominated league play
since the third week of the season, and hosting two home play-off games, the
Rams found themselves at the losing end of a 41-38 score vs Mountain View
Christian School of Las Vegas. Many observers felt that this was perhaps, the
most exciting high school football game ever played at Silver State Academy. The
lead traded back and forth many times with MV going ahead to stay with 1:51 left
on the clock. The Rams drove the entire length of the field and attempted a pass
into the end zone as time expired. Northern AA power, Pershing County went on
last week to defeat Mountain View in the State Championship game 14-12. The team
was honored at last night's awards banquet featuring talks by Principal Russ
Colletta, who recognized the amazing accomplishments of this team, Athletic
Director, John Dibble, who stressed the importance of athletic participation,
and Coach Grimshaw, who handed out numerous team awards. All League Selections
included: Devontae W, Offensive Player of the Year, Michael S, Lineman of the
Year, Deandre Hampton, 1st team running back, Daryl S, 1st team lineman, both
offense and defense, Cory P, 1st team linebacker, and Johnny L, 1st team
defensive back. Team Honorees included: Devontae W, MVP; Cory P, Most
Inspirational; Vincent A, Most Improved, and Michael S, Citizenship Through
Sports Award.
